BRAMLO ADVICE

Pay monthly or pay once for your website?

Both can be sensible. Compare the work, rights and ongoing costs in the actual agreement, then choose the arrangement you want to live with.

The difference is the arrangement, not simply the first bill

An upfront website purchase can suit a business that wants control over the code and hosting, provided the agreement grants those rights. A monthly service can suit a business that wants design and care together with a lower initial build outlay. Neither payment model guarantees quality, rankings or good support. You need to assess the written scope, the design and the person responsible for maintenance.

A worked comparison, not a competitor quote

Imagine a one-off build costing £600 with £15/month hosting. These figures are hypothetical and do not represent a named provider or a UK market average. It would total £780 after twelve months, £960 after twenty-four and £1,140 after thirty-six, excluding domain costs and any maintenance. Bramlo at its current £39 rate totals £468, £936 and £1,404 for those periods. The difference changes over time. The one-off example may cost less later, but only if its ongoing work and rights meet your needs.

Why a break-even number is not the whole answer

In that simplified example, £600 divided by the £24 monthly difference is 25 months. That is an arithmetic comparison, not a recommendation to buy or cancel at month 25. Additional update costs, price changes or a different hosting quote change the calculation. More importantly, one option might include maintenance while the other does not. Put equal assumptions into your comparison and list what you would need to do yourself.

Ownership needs its own conversation

Your domain is separate from the design files, code and hosting account. With Bramlo you purchase and own the domain, and retain the content you supply. Bramlo retains its original design and code; use of those materials is part of the paid managed service. A full export or continuing design licence needs a separate written agreement. If you need a freely portable website, make that requirement explicit before selecting either model.

Think about time as well as money

Someone needs to update contact details, check forms, resolve errors and review the information customers see. If you enjoy maintaining your own website, independent hosting may appeal. If you prefer to ask someone to make small changes, compare the included allowance and response arrangements. Bramlo does not include unlimited changes or guaranteed round-the-clock support. Larger work is quoted before it is charged.

Choose using a real brief

List your required pages and tools, obtain the scope, ask for a representative example and check the cancellation terms. For the current brochure scope see Bramlo pricing. For starting costs see websites without an upfront build fee. A free initial preview can help assess the design direction, without making either payment model automatically the better choice.
